It is a beautiful day in the frozen tundra of Huntsville.
As I am writing this, we are beginning to see the backside to the winter storm that blew through here over the weekend which caused the Elders to cancel yesterday’s service.
On the other side of that coin, plans are being made to reschedule Pastor Reinke for another visit along with a new date for Game Day. God, thank You for opportunities to continue to move forward in the service You call us to do.
And when you think about service, what comes to mind for you? Is it taking care of people’s needs? It is. Is it learning and growing from God through our Bible Talks times? Without a doubt. Is it teaching and leading children and their families through education and faith? It is, for sure. And is it gathering together to receive from God His service during the Divine Service? Absolutely it is.
All of what we do here at Faith Lutheran Church and School IS service. It is both serving people on God’s behalf and receive God’s service through His Word and Sacraments.
We serve because God served us FIRST. We serve because people need to receive God’s service. We serve because we want ALL PEOPLE to know the truth of God, receive His grace, and live with God both now and forever.
And wouldn’t it be wonderful that all members of Faith were engaged in some form of service? Yes, it would. Look at in this way. Being a disciple is a way of life that serves. Being a disciple is a way of living with God and for God. Being a disciple is receiving the service that comes from God and putting it to good use in the lives of people all around us.
And we serve because it is who we are. WE ARE DISICPLES. Service is what we do.
So, have you given some thought as to how YOU are going to exercise your discipleship? If you haven’t, please pray about it. God, lead us to see what you are providing us that is right here in front of our eyes. Open our lives to the possibilities You laid out for us. And move us by means of Your grace and love to serve for You in everlasting righteousness and blessedness. We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, who is our Savior and Lord, who lives with You are the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever, amen.
In the coming weeks ahead, we will be communicating about many ways that you can serve. Please look forward to hearing and seeing about ways so that you can participate in the service for and with God.
Your servant in Christ,
Pastor Robert
